Man jailed for stealing from vehicles - Reading:

A Woodley man has been jailed for a year after pleading guilty to two charges of theft from motor vehicle and asking for another 51 offences to be taken into consideration.

Mark Ward, aged 32, from Hearn Road, appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court today (20/4).

He was charged with stealing a CD player and CDs from a Ford Fiesta on Kennet Island on 12 March and a CD player from blue Citroen Saxo in Cradock Road, on 5 March.

Det
. Con Kev Cox, from the Reading Priority Crime Team, said: "This was an unusual case where Ward approached us, saying that he was having problems with drugs and committing crime to fund that habit.

"He wanted to admit to carrying out a number of offences so that he could go to prison and get his life back on track.

"He had been a prolific thief and we hope that he does use his time in jail to conquer his drug use."
